Women’s Premier League 2024 player auction list announced for December 15

The Women’s Premier League (WPL) Player Auction for 2024 is set to take place in Bengaluru on December 15, featuring a total of 120 players. This year’s list includes 91 Indian cricketers and 29 overseas players, with three from Associate Nations. Among them, 82 are uncapped Indian players, while eight are uncapped overseas cricketers. Teams will aim to fill 19 slots, five of which are reserved for overseas players.

Players with the highest reserve price of INR 50 lakh (approximately US$60,000) include Deandra Dottin, Heather Knight (released by Royal Challengers Bangalore), and Lizelle Lee. Indian stars such as Sneh Rana (released by Gujarat Giants), Poonam Yadav (released by Delhi Capitals), and Shubha Satheesh (released by RCB) also headline the auction. Overseas players like England’s Lauren Bell, Sarah Glenn, Sophia Dunkley, and Amanda-Jade Wellington of Australia add to the star-studded lineup.

The five WPL teams have varied slots to fill. Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Giants each have four vacancies, with the latter reserving two for overseas players. Mumbai Indians also have four spots, including one overseas slot. Royal Challengers Bangalore, with four vacancies, do not have room for overseas players, while UP Warriorz have three vacancies, one for an overseas player. Teams are permitted to add a seventh overseas player if they hail from an Associate Nation.

The auction includes Associate players such as UAE’s Samaira Dharnidharka and Theertha Satish, alongside Scotland’s Sarah Bryce. However, Kathryn Bryce, formerly with Gujarat Giants, has opted out of this year’s auction. England has the second-highest representation with eight players, following Australia’s twelve. Notable Australians like Alana King, Kim Garth, and Darcie Brown are also part of the auction pool.
