WPL 2025 Auction Scheduled for December 15 in Bengaluru

The much-anticipated Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 auction will take place on December 15 in Bengaluru. Five franchises will compete to strengthen their squads, with an increased budget of ₹15 crore this season, up from ₹13.5 crore last year.

The auction will see several top international and domestic stars going under the hammer. England captain Heather Knight, New Zealand pacer Lea Tahuhu, and West Indies all-rounder Deandra Dottin are among the international names expected to attract significant attention.

On the domestic front, prominent Indian players such as Sneh Rana, Poonam Yadav, and Veda Krishnamurthy will be available for bidding. These players are likely to be key targets for franchises looking to bolster their squads with proven performers.

The Gujarat Giants, who finished last season at the bottom of the table, will enter the auction with the largest purse of ₹4.4 crore after releasing seven players. In contrast, the Delhi Capitals, led by Meg Lanning, have the smallest budget of ₹2.5 crore, having retained most of their core players.

Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have a budget of ₹3.25 crore after releasing seven players. During the pre-season trade window, RCB made headlines by acquiring England’s Danni Wyatt-Hodge from UP Warriorz in an all-cash trade deal.

Across the five franchises, a total of 71 players, including 25 overseas stars, have been retained, ensuring stability in each team’s core lineup. The retention strategy highlights the franchises’ focus on maintaining continuity while adding fresh talent to address specific gaps.
