UP Warriorz began their chase on a high note as their captain Alyssa Healy smashed Delhi bowlers all around the ground from the very first ball of the innings. However, Jess Jonassen bowled brilliantly and took out Healy and Kiran Navgire in the 4th over. Marizanne Kapp then dismissed opener Shweta Sehrawat for just 1 run.
Tahlia McGrath’s fighting knock of 90 runs went in vain as UP Warriorz batters failed to stitch up a much-needed partnership. Although she tried to ease some pressure from her team and slammed boundaries at regular intervals, her teammates kept losing wickets at crucial junctures, and the equation kept getting tougher.
Jonassen was the star player for Delhi Capitals as she slammed an unbeaten 42 and bagged a three-wicket haul, giving a crucial breakthrough whenever her team needed it. Radha Yadav also took a brilliant catch to send Deepti Sharma packing.
Despite McGrath’s valiant effort, Delhi Capitals held their nerve and clinched a convincing victory. In the end, UP Warriorz fell short by 42 runs, handing Delhi their well-deserved win.
Earlier, Delhi Capitals put up a formidable total of 211/4 against UP Warriorz in their innings, thanks to an outstanding performance by Meg Lanning and Jess Jonassen. Lanning was the top scorer for Delhi Capitals, hitting a blazing 70 runs off just 42 balls. Meanwhile, Jonassen played a quickfire unbeaten knock of 42 runs in just 20 balls.
Delhi Capitals got off to a flying start as their openers Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma scored at a rapid pace, taking the team’s total beyond the 60-run mark in just under 6 overs. Lanning and Shafali smashed Rajeshwari Gayakwad for 17 runs in the 6th over of the game. However, Tahlia McGrath gave UP Warriorz a much-needed breakthrough by removing dangerous batter Shafali Verma for 17 runs in the 7th over of the game.
Despite the loss of Shafali Verma, Lanning continued her red-hot form and hammered UP Warriorz bowlers all around the ground, scoring a 32-ball 53 in the 9th over of the game. However, the match was interrupted by rain for some time, and when it resumed, Marizanne Kapp hit a stunning six off Deepti Sharma’s delivery before being dismissed by Sophie Ecclestone’s shortened-length ball.
Jemimah Rodrigues then joined Lanning at the crease, and the two batters slammed boundaries at regular intervals to pile up the runs. Gayakwad finally ended Lanning’s show after she scored 70 runs off 42 balls, and Alice Capsey came out to bat. Rodrigues and Capsey continued to score at a brisk pace, but Shabnim Ismail removed Capsey for 21 runs in the 15th over of the game.
Jess Jonassen then came out to bat and played some outstanding shots with Rodrigues, piling up 19 runs from Tahlia McGrath’s over. Jonassen and Rodrigues remained unbeaten and guided their team to a competitive total of 211/4 in 20 overs.
