IPL 2023: Kieron Pollard debuts as batting coach for Mumbai Indians after awarded “Best Fielder” in PSL this year

Former West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard, renowned for his on-field performances, has joined Mumbai Indians as their batting coach during IPL 2023. He attended his first pre-season practice session as the batting coach for Mumbai Indians.

Pollard has always been a leader and mentor for fellow players, and now young cricketers with aspirations to emulate his success look forward to spending more time with him in this new role.

He was also awarded “Best Fielder” of the tournament during PSL 2023.

After his first session on Tuesday, Pollard shared his gratitude for playing for Mumbai Indians and representing the people of Mumbai. He emphasized that his personality and character would remain the same in his new role.

Pollard announced his retirement from the Indian Premier League (IPL) in November last year and subsequently took up the position of batting coach for IPL 2023.

Since joining Mumbai Indians in 2010, Pollard has been one of the franchise’s marquee players, contributing to numerous victories. In 189 matches, he scored 3,412 runs at an average of 28.67, with 16 half-centuries, and took 69 wickets for the five-time champions.

However, his performance in the 2022 season was underwhelming, scoring only 144 runs at an average of 14.40 and taking just four wickets.

Young cricketers on the team expressed their excitement about Pollard’s presence as their batting coach.

Tilak Verma, Dewald Brewis, Ramandeep Singh, Kumar Kartikeya, and Hrithik Shokeen all spoke about the positive impact of Pollard’s guidance on their careers.

Mumbai Indians are scheduled to play their first IPL match against Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 2, 2023, and their first home game on April 8 at Wankhede Stadium against Chennai Super Kings.
