Lanka Premier League 2023 to start from July 31 with Finals on August 22

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has announced that the fourth edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) will take place from July 31 to August 22 this year.

The SLC board released a statement confirming the dates for the five-team tournament, which will be held across three international venues.

The current teams are Colombo Stars, Dambulla Aura, Galle Gladiators, Jaffna Kings, and Kandy Falcons.

Samantha Dodanwela, Tournament Director of the Lanka Premier League, explained that the decision to hold the LPL during July and August offers the best chance to attract top international talent and aligns well with Sri Lanka’s international cricket calendar.

This shift also marks the league’s return to its originally planned window.

“We have decided to hold the tournament during July and August this year, as conducting the tournament during this period gives us the best possible opportunity to attract top international talent and also suits well with Sri Lanka’s international cricket calendar,” said Mr. Samantha Dodanwela, Tournament Director of the Lanka Premier League.

The Lanka Premier League represents Sri Lanka’s premier T20 domestic competition with an international flair.

Each team in the tournament will feature 20 players, comprising 14 Sri Lankans and six overseas players.

The 2022 edition took place from December 6 to 23, with Jaffna Kings securing their second consecutive title by defeating Colombo Stars in the final.
